In a major shift aligned with the National Education Policy 2020, Odisha’s School and Mass Education Department has decided to reduce academic burden and make learning more activity-based for students. Students from Class 6 to 8 will come to school without bags for 10 days every year. For Shishu Vatika students, every Saturday will be a bag-less day to promote play-based learning. As per the new directive sent to all District Education Officers, schools will now function for 230 days in an academic year. Out of these, 20 days will be dedicated to annual functions, sports meets and other co-curricular events. Teaching will be held for 190 days with 7 periods daily. All classes will have 42 periods per week. A uniform timetable of 498 periods has been prepared for Shishu Vatika to Class 8 to ensure consistency across schools.
