In yet another setback for Mamata Banerjee, Mamata Banerjee camp’s Nandigram candidate Sanchita Dey Pradhan withdrew her nomination for bye elections. This withdrawal comes after meeting Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari at the state secretariat in Nabanna. The party wouldn’t be able to name a new candidate as the last date for nominations was September 16. Hours after her camp’s candidate withdrew from the contest, former CM Mamata Banerjee announced that her party will support the Congress in the Nandigram Assembly Bypoll as well as in Assam, describing the move as being in the “greater interest of the nation.” The TMC faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee has named Mohammad Eteshamul Haque as its candidate, while the Communist Party of India (CPI) has nominated Shanti Gopal Giri. Similarly, the Congress has declared Milan Pradhan as its candidate, while Hasirani Rath is BJP’s nominee. West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari vacated the Nandigram seat after winning the seat along with Bhabanipur in the May 2026 assembly polls.
