Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday made her first public address via video conferencing since her ouster, two years ago. In a virtual interaction with the media in Delhi, Sheikh Hasina described India as a “great friend” and said the relationship would endure. Sheikh Hasina announced that she would return to her homeland, saying that she was ready to face any consequences, including arrest, imprisonment or threats to her life. In a strongly-worded speech, she accused the current regime of pushing the country into anarchy and vowed to return Bangladesh to help rebuild the Nation. On the current situation Hasina said, there has been anarchy in Bangladesh for the last 2 years. She alleged that the country she helped build is no longer the same. Hasina claimed at least 10,000 Awami League leaders have been killed since the change in Government. She also alleged that freedom fighters are being insulted and minorities are being persecuted. On Bangabandhu’s legacy, Hasina said there is an attempt to destroy every symbol of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, also known as Bangabandhu, was the founding president and prime minister of Bangladesh and a central figure in the country’s independence. She reminded that 30 lakh people sacrificed their lives during the formation of the country in 1971.
