The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday allotted separate party names and election symbols to the two rival factions involved in the Trinamool Congress (TMC) symbol dispute. Mamata Banerjee’s faction has been allotted the football player symbol and will be known as the Mamata All India Trinamool Congress. Meanwhile, the rebel faction led by Ritabrata has been allotted the envelope symbol and will be known as the Democratic Trinamool Congress. The poll panel made the allocation after both factions submitted their preferred party names and election symbols for the upcoming by-elections. The allotment of separate names and symbols comes ahead of the by-polls, with both factions set to contest under their respective identities. Earlier, the Election Commission announced that by-elections for five Assembly constituencies across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and West Bengal would be held on October 6.
