A Pakistani naval ship collided with an Indian Navy vessel in international waters of the North Arabian Sea on September 15, prompting the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to summon Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires (CDA) in New Delhi and lodge a strong protest. According to the MEA, the Pakistani naval unit approached the Indian vessel at high speed in what India described as “unacceptable and unprofessional” conduct, resulting in the collision. No major damage was reported from the incident. India stated that the conduct of the Pakistani naval ship was in direct contravention of Article 10 of the April 1991 Agreement between India and Pakistan on Advance Notice on Military Exercises, Manoeuvres and Troops Movements. The Pakistani Chargé d’Affaires was advised to convey to the concerned authorities the need for all military units to exercise due care and comply with relevant bilateral agreements to prevent such incidents from recurring. The MEA has also instructed the Indian Chargé d’Affaires in Islamabad to lodge a similar protest with Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
