Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France. President Trump described India as a “trusted friend” and said, US have always stood with India. Trump said America will defend India from any attack as long as Modi is the Prime Minister. He added that India has a “crucial role” in restoring peace in West Asia. Trump underlined his personal rapport with PM Modi, saying, “My personal relationship with Modi is very close.” He also noted that the US is “very close to a trade deal with India.” PM Modi credited President Trump for peace returning to West Asia. He stressed that keeping the Hormuz Strait open is vital for the global economy. On energy, Trump said the US will not force India to import oil from America. Both leaders also discussed keeping the Strait of Hormuz open for global trade.
