According to a notification, the Assembly stands dissolved from May 7 following the completion of due constitutional process. The Governor’s office stated that the decision was taken under constitutional provisions to prevent a legislative deadlock. The order was issued under Article 174(2)(b) of the Constitution of India. Reacting to the developments, Mamata Banerjee had earlier declared that she will not resign. She maintained that her Government still had the mandate and accused the Centre of misusing the Governor’s office for political purposes.
