In a major move to ensure student safety and welfare, Higher Education Department directed all higher education institutions to reconstitute statutory committees and student support systems within 7 days ahead of the 2026-27 academic session. As per the directive, institutions have been instructed to activate the Anti-Ragging Committee & Squad, Internal Committee against Sexual Harassment, Student Grievance Redressal Committee, Student Support & Counselling Cell, and Ombudsperson, where applicable. To ensure prompt redressal of student grievances, the order also mandates strengthening the Grievance Redressal Committee, Student Service Centre, and Mental Health and Counselling services. Registrars, Principals, or Heads of Institutions must ensure all these systems are in place within 7 days of receiving the letter. The move comes amid growing focus on campus safety, mental health support, and creating a secure learning environment free from ragging, harassment, and discrimination.
