Andhra Pradesh’s Dhiraj Bommadevara scripted history by becoming the first Indian male recurve archer to win individual Gold at the Archery World Cup Final. Competing in Saltillo, Mexico, Bommadevara defeated Japan’s Junya Nakanishi 6-5 in a thrilling shoot-off after the five-set final ended in a 5-5 draw. The Indian archer held his nerve in the decisive shoot-off to secure the prestigious title after a closely fought contest against Nakanishi. Bommadevara’s historic triumph also ended a 16-year wait for an Indian male recurve archer to win a medal at the Archery World Cup Final. Jayanta Talukdar was the last Indian male recurve archer to claim a medal, winning Bronze in Edinburgh in 2010. The victory marks a landmark moment for Indian archery and further strengthens India’s presence on the international recurve circuit.
