India to Host Inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy in 2027

India will host the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy in 2027, with the landmark six-team tournament scheduled to be held from February 14 to 28, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Wednesday.

The tournament, which was originally scheduled to be hosted by Sri Lanka, has been shifted to India. The ICC Board ratified the decision on September 2 following an assessment of potential host countries.

Mumbai and Vadodara have been selected as the two host cities. The Cricket Club of India (CCI) in Mumbai and the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium will host all the matches.

The inaugural edition will feature six of the world’s leading women’s cricket teams — Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka. The teams qualified based on their positions in the ICC Women’s T20I Team Rankings as of the July 6 qualification cut-off date.

The tournament will follow a round-robin format, with all six teams competing against each other. The top two teams at the end of the league stage will advance to the final, scheduled to be played on February 28.

ICC Chairman Jay Shah described the tournament as an exciting new chapter for women’s cricket, saying the event would bring together the world’s best teams while creating greater incentive for teams to improve their rankings and compete on the global stage.

The ICC said the relocation from Sri Lanka follows the country’s ongoing reforms outlined at the ICC Annual Conference in July. India was selected as the replacement host after the ICC evaluated bids from Bangladesh, India and South Africa against its established host-selection criteria.
